'Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ Officially Added To The National Film Registry

With the sad and unfortunate news that Disney currently has no interest in Who Framed Roger Rabbit and it characters, the Library of Congress has recognized this film for its stunning technological and animation achievements as well as its importance to our culture and history. 25 films are carefully selected each year and 2016 adds Robert Zemeckis' film noir, live-action/animation movie will be preserved by the registry. As stated by the Library of Congress:

"Under the terms of the National Film Preservation Act, each year the Librarian of Congress names to the National Film Registry 25 motion pictures that are “culturally, historically or aesthetically” significant. The films must be at least 10 years old. The Librarian makes the annual registry selections after conferring with the distinguished members of the National Film Preservation Board (NFPB) and a cadre of Library specialists."

Pin Release: Disney Racers Mystery Set

There is a new Roger Rabbit pin released in all Disney Parks. The Disney Racers Mystery Set was released this month and consists of 16 pins in total. You buy one pack and each will come with 5 randomly selected pins. The set appears to be an Open Edition and sells for $27.99 per pack.

The pin design is from a real Roger Rabbit Disney Racers toy that was released some time in the early 2000's. There were several characters to be changed over into their own unique race car and there are new ones being made for Star Wars characters. With the larger selection of characters there may be a second series of this pin set in the future.

Disney Corporate Dosen't Like Jessica Rabbit

There is some very dismaying news coming out of The Telegraph in regards to the future of Roger Rabbit as a whole.

A few other websites (such as ComicBook.com) have picked up on quotes from the Who Framed Roger Rabbit director himself, Robert Zemeckis. He has revealed what he believes is the current feeling at Disney Corporate regarding Roger and Jessica Rabbit in addition to any other related projects:

“the current corporate Disney culture has no interest in Roger, and they certainly don’t like Jessica at all.”

This is extraordinarily sad, and also very obvious as Jessica Rabbit's pins have vanished and there has been so little news or merchandise to report on as the years have passed. Zemeckis did share what the idea would have been for Roger Rabbit 2 - moving out of 1940's film noir into a more 50's style movie and acting as a continuation rather than a sequel.

Pin Release - I'm Not Bad. I'm Just Drawn That Way

There's been a new Jessica Rabbit pin released in Disney Parks this month. There haven't been many Jessica pins lately, but this pis happens to be a great one. Jessica is sitting with her arms behind her head, with a banner around her which has her famous quote from Who Framed Roger Rabbit, "I'm Not Bad. I'm Just Drawn That Way." Jessica's dress is glitter filled, and she is sitting next to a pencil and paintbrush (which has some glitter paint on the end). Part of the banner is the bottom layer of the pin, while Jessica is a top layer. As far as I know this is an open edition pin which has turned up in Disneyland and sells for $12.99 each. Thanks to José for helping me track it down and for the photo below.

New Custom Jessica Rabbit Figures By Jen Bednarski

In 2015 artist Jen Bednarski continued wowing everyone with her unique and exciting Vinylmation creations. Using the popular Mickey-shaped Vinylmation figure as a base, she would paint, sculpt and reshape it into something completely original. I couldn't rave enough about her work on a Jessica Rabbit Vinylmation last year, capturing the essence and feel of the character so well. Now, there are new figures being made, and the work on them is spectacular!

Steven Spielberg And Disney Working Together Again

The big news this week was the announcement of Harrison Ford reprising his role in a fifth installment of Indiana Jones, schedule for release in 2019. The rights to Lucasfilm properties, like Indiana Jones and Star Wars, was bought by Disney in 2012 for a whopping sum of $4.06 billion. Steven Spielberg has signed back on to direct the new movie and there hasn't been much more information past that. The surprise that might be evident to some fans is Spielberg's sudden return to Disney after a long break-up that occurred after making Roger Rabbit.

J.J. Abrams Almost Worked On A Roger Rabbit Sequel

Director of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, J.J. Abrams, happens to have a slight connection to Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Abrams recently worked with producer Kathleen Kennedy on the new episode of Star Wars, but she had known of him from many years before.

During the Nerdist Podcast, Abrams discusses how Kathleen Kennedy read about him in the LA Times during a film festival when he was only 16. She called to ask him about repairing 8mm films for Steven Spielberg that he made when he was a kid. He said yes and did the repairs. It would be years later that he eventually met Spielberg.

While the details are scant he does officially say from that point it was "a meeting about a Roger Rabbit sequel."

Visiting The Roger Rabbit Props One Last Time

(UPDATE - VIDEO ADDED)
There are some very big changes coming to Disney's Hollywood Studios. This year work begins on three new "lands" within the park (which will consequently receive a third name change since the focus of it is so different). The Disney Renaissance began with Who Framed Roger Rabbit and its success ushered in new animated features like The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. Around this time, Disney's MGM Studios heavily focused on its hand drawn cartoons and served as a functioning movie studio. Roger and Jessica Rabbit even had their own area within the park. This is most likely going to vanish altogether after the new changes. Let's take a look at what's left there, and what it originally looked like years ago.

Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin Grand Opening Video

Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin ride in Disneyland recently celebrated another year in Toontown. Last year there was a lot of rumor that we might lose the ride, as well as Toontown, to the new Star Wars Land expansion. However, this is not the case, and Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin is still keeping guests entertained.
