Could Designer Collection Wedding Dolls Be On The Way

A costume for a Designer Ariel wedding dress was recently spotted in a Disney Store. Does this mean a Wedding series of dolls might be on the way? It would be kind of unusual for a Designer Wedding costume to be released with no type of doll series to go with it. 2016 Designer Fairytale Collection Two Revealed

The extremely long awaited reveal of the Disney Designer Fairytale Collection Heroes vs. Villains Set Two happened this week, with four set this year instead of five. Last year we saw Snow White and The Witch, Elsa and Hans, Ariel and Ursula, Rapunzel and Mother Gothel and for the first time ever Peter Pan and Captain Hook. This year, as rumored, we have Belle and Gaston, Cinderella and Lady Tremaine, Aurora and Maleficent, and another first with Alice and The Queen of Hearts. The Beast And Gaston 17" Dolls Revealed

The next two dolls in the Beauty and the Beast Heirloom Collection have been revealed today. As it was heavily speculated with Belle in her "Something There" dress, The Beast is in his matching outfit. Gaston is wearing his fancy attire in which he tried to propose to Belle. The bigger surprise is that ALL three dolls will be available for pre-order at the same time.

Disney Doll Release Schedule

It's dollMAGEDDON season, and this year the schedule is overflowing with new Disney doll releases. Always hoping there will be a new Jessica Rabbit doll on the way, I've been keeping tabs on what's coming out since the first Designer Collection was released in 2011. During all this reporting I've managed to buy a few things over the years myself, but sadly it appears we won't see a Jessica doll in 2015. We are just months away from the 2015 D23 convention and everyone is looking for clues, hints, sneak peeks and any information that might be of value as to what is going to be released. We had a reveal late last night of a Once Upon A Time doll set with Snow White and Regina - the first time these characters have been made into dolls. Today, we got a first look at one set from the rumored Heroes Vs. Villains series - Ariel and Ursula.

While the back of the box is hard to read, it does state that this is a Designer Fairytale Collection:

"Disney's Designer Fairytale Collection brings together the legendary heroes and villains you love in a series inspired by your favorite Disney fairytales. Disney Store artists have captured the timeless struggle between good and evil in magnificent detail, conveying the wonderful wickedness and bold heroic spirit of these unforgettable characters. Rich, evocative and dramatic, the Disney Designer Fairytale Collection will be a treasured keepsake for collectors and Disney fans alike."

Designer Fairytale Collection Released This Week

The Disney Fairytale Designer Collection Series Two includes Tiana and Naveen; Pocahontas and John Smith; Cinderella and Prince Charming; Mulan and Li Shang; and Aurora and Prince Philip. Some of the special detailing to each of the dolls includes embroidered bodices, rhinestone accents, golden buttons and satin gowns with ornate prints. Each doll measures 11.5 inches tall and every couple will come in their special display case, with slip cover and Certificate of Authenticity. They will be a Limited Edition of 6,000 each, the Doll Sets will sell for for $129.95. Each couple set will now be for individual sale starting on Tuesday in Disney Store locations with Tiana and Naveen. The stores get a limited number of the dolls so they have created a lottery system in the past where you can arrive and take a number in hopes it is called - rather than having a mob scene at all hours waiting in line. The next day, Wednesday morning of the 24th, the dolls go on sale on The Disney Store website (at midnight on the west coast and 3 am on the east coast). All five couple sets were sold as a pre-order in limited quantities if anyone wanted the entire series - and they sold out within minutes, as did the Designer Pin Set. Disney Designer Fairytale Collection Revealed

It is the most anticipated doll release of the year. The Designer Collection series revitalized Disney's Princesses and people hoped more characters would eventually be included as each years new series was announced. However, this time around it started off with a lot of mixed feelings. Heavy speculation (and high hopes) were put into a possible Leading Ladies or Heroines series for the next Designer set of dolls. New characters like Merida and others like Tink, Sally, Alice or even Jessica could have been stunningly recreated in Disney Designer glory. Rumors began to swirl around the internet back in March with Designer Doll artist, Steven Thompson, hinting on his site that there was something in the works for this year, especially with the D23 convention happening. Then came rumor from sources that unnamed CastMembers found out the new series would be Designer Couples. This rumor turned out to be true.

dollMAGEDDON Strikes Back

It was announced on Steve Thompson's Tumblr page that he will be attending the 2013 D23 Convention. The convention is held every other year and is packed full of Disney this and Disney that - park announcements, guest stars, panels, and upcoming merchandise. Thompson, the evil genius behind the Disney Designer Collection, stated:

"While it is still top secret what we have in store, I will again be attending this coming August. As soon as I can let you know more I will post it here on my Tumblr page first."

The post was accompanied by photos from the 2011 D23 Convention, in which his Designer Princess dolls caused mass hysteria, panic attacks and temporary loss of bladder control. Once the dolls made their way for sale on the Disney Store website months later, what occurred in the following weeks made history as dollMAGEDDON. A year later, 2012 offered up some of Disney's most memorable female Villains for the Designer line, and Disney tried to make amends for the previous year by producing a higher edition size of dolls - therefore eliminating a dollMAGEDDON repeat. While this new information doesn't confirm or deny a third Designer Collection, we are left knowing that something IS in store for this year.

Disney Designer Villains Set Preorder

Now up for pre-order is the full set of six Disney Designer Villains Dolls. So far there are no glitches or weird code messages popping up - but with the full set selling for a whopping $477, I don't think there are crowds of people lining up to buy this. When the individual dolls are released September 10th in stores and September 11th online, that might be a different story, however the higher edition sizes make it more promising that there will not be a website collapse again. There are also shirts and other items planned to be released. Are we one year away to a possible Designer Jessica Rabbit? I suppose the success of the Villains could be a deciding factor. *UPDATE* The Designer Villains Doll Set is SOLD OUT. The set sold out some time around 4:30 am eastern time.

Okay, so we didn't get Jessica Rabbit this year - but, I was at least right that Disney was not going to pass up the opportunity for another go at the Designer Collection line, even after last years near collapse of their website due to the Princess series released. Take a good, long look at the Cruella doll, and tell me they are not even considering making a Jessica Designer doll.

While I'm not an avid doll collector, there are certainly some that catch my eye from time to time. One series that did was the Disney Princess Designer Collection. There was a Limited Edition pin set released of the artwork for all ten Disney Princess - Snow White, Cinderella, Aurora, Ariel, Jasmine, Belle, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tiana and Rapunzel. The pin set was only available at the D23 Expo in August, and is now selling for big bucks on eBay.
