Disney Fairytale Designer Collection 2 Revealed

The Disney Designer dolls went in a different direction in 2013 with the new Fairytale Collection. The first Fairytale series included Jasmine and Aladdin, Snow White and The Prince, Eric and Ariel, Beauty and the Beast and Rapunzel and Flynn. People picked out their favorites - and certain things they did and didn't like about each couple - but all dolls sold out and proved to be rather successful. Ariel and Eric were the most popular couple, selling out in a very short time. After the first five couples, there was a lot of speculation if a second series of dolls would be released - since it was an off year for the D23 Convention, and since it seemed a lot of the more popular Princesses were released in the first series.

All five couples in Series Two of the Designer Fairytale Collection have now been reveled thanks to the Disney Store's Blog The Buzz and people are again choosing which couple is their favorite, making note of Disney's great style with this series. Now, it's only high hopes that a possible Leading Ladies Designer Series may come out - as people still want to see different characters AND the survival of the Designer Collection as a whole. New characters like Merida, Anna, Elsa are still wanted in Designer form - and others like Sally, Alice, Esmeralda, Megara and of course Jessica Rabbit would look great with a Designer Collection treatment.

There should be more news on the series soon, here is Disney's official announcement:
"Last year, Disney Store unveiled the Disney Fairytale Designer Collection, a beautifully crafted assortment of products designed to capture the essence of “happily ever after” at its best and celebrate iconic Disney Princess characters and their leading men.

We are excited to officially announce a continuation of the collection with product featuring additional Disney Princess characters, anchored by five Limited Edition Doll Sets that include Tiana and Naveen; Pocahontas and John Smith; Cinderella and Prince Charming; Mulan and Li Shang; and Briar Rose and Prince Phillip."

Flashback Friday - The Who Framed Roger Rabbit Anniversary

Last year marked the very special 25th Anniversary of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, an ambitious cartoon-noir film which starred a human actor - and a cartoon rabbit. The animation by Disney was flawless; the effects by Industrial Light and Magic were magical; the acting was superb. With the combination of Robert Zemeckis as director and Steven Spielberg as producer, the movie accomplished many feats while incorporating other famous cartoon characters from other companies into one movie. Read up on the story of Roger Rabbit and the special anniversary last year:

Happy 60th Birthday Kathleen Turner

The speaking voice of Jessica Rabbit, Kathleen Turner, is celebrating her 60th Birthday today. Her voice originally went uncredited for Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but the familiar tone of that memorable voice didn't stay a secret, especially with her prior work with director Robert Zemeckis. (Photo via showbiznews.info)

In her original interview about the film, she decried what was needed for the role, and a little bit on her motivation for playing the part:

For Jessica Rabbit, the filmmakers needed a voice that would match their vision of her, that of a sexy screen goddess of the 40s. Who better than Kathleen Turner.

Kathleen Turner:
I think that Jessica and Roger Rabbit work so well because they are such opposites.

To me what's funny is the contrast of the reality of her, and the wimpishness of this rabbit. It's like, how are these two attracted to each other?

They gave me a kind of a sketch, an idea that [Jessica] would be red haired, a Veronica Lake kind of style and very-very-very slinky. They just said they wanted the most sultry voice I could come up with.

I guess I'm sort of attracted to vamps, and this is a very safe vamp. I mean, it's only the voice, you know, so I can't really be blamed for this one.

An idea of a fantasy world just around the corner through a tunnel; I love it. I would love to think that outside of L.A. past all the freeways there really is this happy place.

Pin Preview - Disney Divas Shoes Mini-Pin Set

Jessica Rabbit has a brand new ornament that was recently released that is part of Disney's Runway Shoe Collection. As is customary with the ornaments, a pin set is being released matching the shoes created in the series. All the characters available this season are Anna, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, Jessica Rabbit, Tinker Bell, Mulan, Mary Poppins and Elsa. I thought Miss Piggy was part of the new releases but she is not part of this set - and I have not seen the ornament version of the Flora, Fauna and Merryweather show up yet.

It appears Jessica's shoe will not feature glitter fill, but her park autograph will appear on the heart. This will be an open edition set released on July 17th and sells for $29.95 each. This set will be available to order through Disney Merchandise Guest Services after 30 days of its release.

Jessica Rabbit Sugar Paste Statue

Have a look at this video by ARTEDELLETORTE - a step-by-step process making Jessica Rabbit's face out of "pasta di zucchero" which is sugar paste. The end results are very cool. Watch the delicate procedure making Jessica's bedroom eye and pouty lips... and the music playing with the video will get stuck in your head for a while.

Coming Soon - Jessica Rabbit Couture de Force Statue

I first reported on Enesco's new Couture de Force Collection in the spring of 2013. From all the descriptions it appeared their focus for the series was that of the famous Disney Princesses and Villains like Cinderella, Snow White, Maleficent, Cruella and The Evil Queen. Looking at the details and inspiration of the statues, I thought this series would be a perfect fit for Jessica Rabbit. It is not often Jessica is included in any kind of series or set which is not pin related - but it looks like it's actually going to happen!

Flashback Friday - Jessica Bathing Suit Pin Set

Summer is underway, and Jessica is off to the beach. Jessica Rabbit pins were not scarce in 2007. This was one year that her pins dominated the store. That year a Jessica World Travel series, a Halloween Costume series, a Valentine set, and two framed sets had been released. A new kind of presentation for pins was created called Card Sets. These were a set of pins on a large background card, but they were not framed. Take a look at these pins - and see some of the original art of a pin never released for this set.
