Disney 17 Inch Doll News And Rumors

Disney's 17 inch doll collection has been growing ever since releasing the first Princess, Snow White, in 2009. The collection is about to have a few new additions, and this time it will be a re-release of a Princess who already had a doll some years back. Beauty and the Beast will celebrate its 25th Anniversary this year, and with the live action version of the film being released in 2017, there's about to be a lot more merchandise on the way over the next year. Strong rumor suggests that not only will Belle receive a new 17 inch Heirloom Collection doll, but Beast and Gaston will be added as well.

Disney Doll Release Schedule

It's dollMAGEDDON season, and this year the schedule is overflowing with new Disney doll releases. Always hoping there will be a new Jessica Rabbit doll on the way, I've been keeping tabs on what's coming out since the first Designer Collection was released in 2011. During all this reporting I've managed to buy a few things over the years myself, but sadly it appears we won't see a Jessica doll in 2015. There is, however, a new collection which could be promising in the future. The new Designer Collection has seen the release of shirts, mugs, bags and journals - with the dolls soon to come. What else can we expect from Disney, read on...

There have been a lot of rumors and speculation about the 2015 Designer Collection ever since the 2013 Designer Fairytale Collection was revealed. People weren't sure if a second series of Fairytale dolls would be released in 2014, and, if they were, which direction would the line take in 2015 for the next D23 convention. Since we saw series 2 of the Fairytale Collection, people have kept their fingers crossed that 2015 would offer something exciting! A new shirt was spotted with Anna and Elsa from Frozen in a familiar style which may or may not offer a clue. Take a look...

Designer Fairytale Collection Released This Week

The Disney Fairytale Designer Collection Series Two includes Tiana and Naveen; Pocahontas and John Smith; Cinderella and Prince Charming; Mulan and Li Shang; and Aurora and Prince Philip. Some of the special detailing to each of the dolls includes embroidered bodices, rhinestone accents, golden buttons and satin gowns with ornate prints. Each doll measures 11.5 inches tall and every couple will come in their special display case, with slip cover and Certificate of Authenticity. They will be a Limited Edition of 6,000 each, the Doll Sets will sell for for $129.95. Each couple set will now be for individual sale starting on Tuesday in Disney Store locations with Tiana and Naveen. The stores get a limited number of the dolls so they have created a lottery system in the past where you can arrive and take a number in hopes it is called - rather than having a mob scene at all hours waiting in line. The next day, Wednesday morning of the 24th, the dolls go on sale on The Disney Store website (at midnight on the west coast and 3 am on the east coast). All five couple sets were sold as a pre-order in limited quantities if anyone wanted the entire series - and they sold out within minutes, as did the Designer Pin Set. Below is the schedule for all five couples:

Disney Fairytale Designer Collection 2 Revealed

The Disney Designer dolls went in a different direction in 2013 with the new Fairytale Collection. The first Fairytale series included Jasmine and Aladdin, Snow White and The Prince, Eric and Ariel, Beauty and the Beast and Rapunzel and Flynn. People picked out their favorites - and certain things they did and didn't like about each couple - but all dolls sold out and proved to be rather successful. Ariel and Eric were the most popular couple, selling out in a very short time. After the first five couples, there was a lot of speculation if a second series of dolls would be released - since it was an off year for the D23 Convention, and since it seemed a lot of the more popular Princesses were released in the first series.

All five couples in Series Two of the Designer Fairytale Collection have now been reveled thanks to the Disney Store's Blog The Buzz and people are again choosing which couple is their favorite, making note of Disney's great style with this series. Now, it's only high hopes that a possible Leading Ladies Designer Series may come out - as people still want to see different characters AND the survival of the Designer Collection as a whole. New characters like Merida, Anna, Elsa are still wanted in Designer form - and others like Sally, Alice, Esmeralda, Megara and of course Jessica Rabbit would look great with a Designer Collection treatment.

There should be more news on the series soon, here is Disney's official announcement:
"Last year, Disney Store unveiled the Disney Fairytale Designer Collection, a beautifully crafted assortment of products designed to capture the essence of “happily ever after” at its best and celebrate iconic Disney Princess characters and their leading men.

We are excited to officially announce a continuation of the collection with product featuring additional Disney Princess characters, anchored by five Limited Edition Doll Sets that include Tiana and Naveen; Pocahontas and John Smith; Cinderella and Prince Charming; Mulan and Li Shang; and Briar Rose and Prince Phillip."

Disney Fairies Designer Collection

Disney has thrown a curve-ball in what has been one of their most successful doll lines, the Designer Collection. It was recently learned that the Disney Fairies Designer Collection was spotted in several Disney Stores to be put on Display soon in conjunction with the new movie, The Pirate Fairy. The Disney Store Buzz Blog confirmed the release, and is doing something a little different in that this isn't a whole collection, at least so far. There are two dolls schedule to be released in stores on February 18th and online the 19th, Tinker Bell and the new pirate fairy character, Zarina. Each doll will be a Limited Edition of 4000 and sell for $59.99 each.

They come packages as all the previous Designer Collection dolls with minor changes to the packaging details, this time including the case. There's now much speculation as to what Disney's future plans are with the Designer Collection, including what collection, if any, will be released in the fall. Tink now joins the list of characters who were in demand for a Designer Collection makeover, leaving the list of wants shortening each year. Disney's newest royalty, Anna and Elsa, along with Merida (in spite of the uproar over her makeover last year) are wanted in some sort of Designer Collection.

Other names often mentioned are Megara from Hercules, Esmeralda from Hunchback of Notre Dame, Wendy from Peter Pan, Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas, and of course Jessica Rabbit! It's also interesting to note that people want to see even lesser known and merchandised characters like Kida from Atlantis and Jane from Tarzan. Since Disney was able to include the Princes, there are several male villains people would like to see in some type of collection as well. Hopefully the Designer Collection keeps its legs and brings us a wider assortment of characters.

Disney Designer Fairytale Collection Revealed

For Disney Fairytale Designer Collection #2 CLICK HERE.

It is the most anticipated doll release of the year. The Designer Collection series revitalized Disney's Princesses and people hoped more characters would eventually be included as each years new series was announced. However, this time around it started off with a lot of mixed feelings. Heavy speculation (and high hopes) were put into a possible Leading Ladies or Heroines series for the next Designer set of dolls. New characters like Merida and others like Tink, Sally, Alice or even Jessica could have been stunningly recreated in Disney Designer glory. Rumors began to swirl around the internet back in March with Designer Doll artist, Steven Thompson, hinting on his site that there was something in the works for this year, especially with the D23 convention happening. Then came rumor from sources that unnamed CastMembers found out the new series would be Designer Couples. This rumor turned out to be true.
