Roger Rabbit Anniversary in D23 Magazine

While the new issue of Disney Twenty Three Magazine was feeling the chill of the upcoming movie Frozen, they still had time to recall the hot summer days back in 1988 and pay homage to Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The fall 2013 issue features a four page article by Ross Anderson called Rabbit Feat, highlighting key moments of the movie creation. It's a wonderful story which brings to attention the importance Who Framed Roger Rabbit had within the Disney company and some interesting information about the artists and crew.

Making Roger Rabbit: 25th Anniversary

This hour long panel included guests who worked on the Who Framed Roger Rabbit film, discussing the process from taking the book to the screen, the creation of the characters and the process of animation and special effects. Producer Don Hahn served as host, and guests were Andreas Deja, Tom Sito, James Baxter, Nick Ranieri, Dave Bossert and Charles Fleischer. Here's what was said about Jessica Rabbit:

Don Hahn:
I want to talk about Jessica.

And Andreas, I want you to talk about Russell Hall. There was an animator on the show who's not with us today. We looked and looked for someone to design Jessica and animate Jessica, teach us everything we could possibly know about Jessica. We looked at Rita Hayworth in these stills. We had drawing classes, this is Walt Stanchfield our drawing instructor, with a leggy supermodel trying to show her how to walk. Walt was frustrated that she couldn't pose right so he finally got up and posed himself.

You read that right - at the 2013 San Diego Comic-Con there will be a panel called Making Roger Rabbit: 25th Anniversary. The official breakdown of the panel from Comic-Con states:

"The making of Who Framed Roger Rabbit is revealed with a world class panel of animators led by legendary producer Don Hahn and featuring a special appearance by the voice of Roger Rabbit himself, Charles Fleisher. The panel includes animation masters Andreas Deja and James Baxter, animator/writer/historian Tom Sito, and special effx wizard Dave Bossert, along with incredible clips and stories from the making of this classic film."

A surprise pin was released at the Disney Soda Fountain and Studio Store today, June 21, 2013, celebrating the 25th Anniversary of Who Framed Roger Rabbit. All the toon characters are on the pin - Jessica, Roger, Baby Herman, Benny the Cab and the Weasels. They are around the movie logo, with 25th Anniversary below. Jessica herself appears to be a second layer. The pins sold for $12.95 and are a Limited Edition of 300.

Roger Rabbit Anniversary Screening And Panel In Disneyland

There will be a special Annual Passholder Magic Event on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 featuring an anniversary screening of Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

"Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Disney's classic film, Who Framed Roger Rabbit with a hare-raising screening for Annual Passholders. Following the screening will be a very special panel discussion featuring some of the members of the creative team that brought the movie to life—seamlessly combining live-action and animation. The panel will be hosted by Don Hahn, Associate Producer of Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and is also scheduled to include Director of Special Projects at Walt Disney Feature Animation, Dave Bossert, Visual Effects Animator on Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Charles Fleischer, the voice of Roger Rabbit."

The screening of the film and panel discussion will be at the AMC 12 Theaters in Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort starting at 7 pm. Registration and wristband distribution for the event will begin at 12:00 noon on the day of the event at the AMC 12 Theaters in Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort. Finally some news of the Roger Rabbit 25th Anniversary kind! Both Walt Disney World and Disneyland will be releasing a Limited Edition pin to commemorate the Anniversary of Who Framed Roger Rabbit on May 30th. If you recall back to the 20th Anniversary, the Disney Store website was still cashing in on Jessica pins. Between there and the parks, twelve pins were released. This time around, we are at least getting one!

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is celebrating it’s 25th anniversary this year on June 22, 2013 and this limited edition commemorative pin features two of the films most memorable characters, Roger and Jessica Rabbit.

The pin features the Who Framed Roger Rabbit logo, 25th Anniversary and Jessica holding Roger from their famous ending scene in the movie in front of a red glitter filled background (which is also filled the same for Jessica's dress.) It is a Limited Edition of 500 and will sell at both park locations for $12.95 each.

The Who Framed Roger Rabbit: A Toontown Reunion screening opened with an outburst of applause on night of April 4th, 2013 in celebration of the films achievements and appreciation of traditional hand-drawn 2D animation. Various members of the film’s cast and crew were on hand either for the stage panel, or also in the audience. The evening was hosted by Rich Moore, the director of Wreck-It Ralph, who spoke with the panel guests: director Robert Zemeckis, screenwriters Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman, associate producer Steve Starkey, artist Andreas Deja, associate producer Don Hahn, actress Joanna Cassidy, and voice actor Charles Fleischer. Who had to dye their hair for the movie?
