Roger Rabbit Copyright Reverts to Creator Gary K. Wolf: New Plans Ahead

It’s official! Ownership of Roger Rabbit is successfully back in the hands of creator Gary K. Wolf.

“I now have back the rights to all my characters, all my books. I can, basically, do my own Roger Rabbit projects.”

This information was shared exclusively with ImNotBad.com and Jessica Rabbit World in a recent interview. The ownership of Roger Rabbit and other beloved characters has successfully transferred back to its originator, author Gary K. Wolf.

The Future Of Roger Rabbit - An Interview With Creator Gary K. Wold

It was some fifteen years ago that I first interviewed Roger Rabbit creator Gary K. Wolf about his novel, Who Censored Roger Rabbit, the inspiration behind it all, the movie, and the aftermath. I was honored to be talking with him again to reexamine the whole process from his original 1981 book to the 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit... and what the future holds.

Merchandise Review #74 - ReAction Figures Wave 2

The first wave of Who Framed Roger Rabbit ReAction Figures by Super7 were released in 2022. As you can imagine it was a big surprise to me, as well as many others. The interest in them was an even bigger surprised to Super7. This is the first series of figures released since 1988, and while they certainly keep the nostalgic feel of toys from that time, the figures are detailed and the character selection expanded on. Five figures were released in the first wave - Roger, Jessica, Judge Doom, Smarty and Stupid. Many people wondered why there was no Eddie Valiant but he's hot on the case of the big rabbit frame-up in Wave 2, along with a lovestruck Roger and Psycho weasel. (Now Available for Pre-Order)

Pin Release - Jessica Rabbit Disney Studio Store Pins

 

Two new Jessica Rabbit pins were revealed in time for D23. The Pizza Series is a Limited Edition of 500 each and sells for $36. Jessica, from Old Hollywood Pizza, is in the center of the box wearing a chef hat and apron. It appears that half of the pizza is off to the right and may be a slider.

The second is the Hollywood Series Open Edition pin. It will also be available at the Disney Studio Store after D23. The pin says "Hollywood" off to the left and Jessica Rabbit stands to the right with her hands on her hips. Jessica's dress is glitter filled. They sell for $24 each.

Coming Soon - Roger Rabbit Funko POP!

 

Funko had a big reveal day recently and showed off a bunch of new figures on the way. These will be available at New York Comic Con in October but also through various other sites - this one in particular scheduled for Funko.com at some point around the convention.

This new Roger Rabbit POP! has Jessica's kisses all over his bashful face. It will be part of the POP! Movies series (the first figure was part of the Disney series).

Some time ago I did a poll for the favorite Jessica Rabbit outfit shown on screen - sparkly dress, non-sparkly dress, Nurse Uniform, Park Ranger uniform, Wedding Dress, swimsuit. Naturally the sparkly dress took it, but it seems Park Ranger Jessica Rabbit is rtiking a chord lately. I posted this clip from Trail Mix-Up of Jessica reciting the famous Smokey Bear quote "Only you can prevent forest fires." Except Jessica delivers the line in an exuberant breathyness that Smokey did not. The reel has received a lot of attention, with many people never having seen the cartoon before. Move over Smokey, Jessica Rabbit has a new platform.

Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers Is Exactly The Movie We Needed

Movies combining live-action and animation certainly isn't a new concept. Who Framed Roger Rabbit was arguably the first film to merge the two successfully. While we also recall classic movies like Mary Poppins and Pete's Dragon, the on-screen time humans and toons spend together is relatively short. Since Roger Rabbit, other companies have tried to follow suit, with Cool World and Space Jam still stuck in everyone's memory (the latter receiving a long-awaited sequel in 2021).

With the announcement of a Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers movie, and the early rumors of it being a hybrid film, I started to get my hopes up... cautiously. Now that I have seen it, I can't express enough how thrilled, entertained and surprised I was every step of the way.
