Who Framed Roger Rabbit Gets 4K Upgrade

The news coming from The Digital Bits is that Who Framed Roger Rabbit will get a 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray release some time in the near future. The movie has been released on DVD previously (in 1999 and then in 2003 and 2013 for its 15th and 25th Anniversaries respectively) but now it will be tooled for 4K resolution so that every detail can be appreciated.

Just a reminder that the Who Framed Roger Rabbit 25th Anniversary Blu Ray DVD was released today, March 12 2013. You can buy your copy almost anywhere. The three cartoon shorts are now digitally remastered for this release, and the movie will be in crisp, Blu Ray quality. The special features on this DVD are the same as the 15th Anniversary Edition that was released in 2003:

Roger Rabbit To Be Released On Blu Ray

It's true folks. Roger Rabbit is being released on Disney Blu Ray DVD on March 12, 2012. This will be a special 25th Anniversary release - but it appears the only thing special about this will be the cover. It's a little upsetting that there isn't anything new for this release, it's possible the menus could have been changed, but there is no word on that so far. There is no mention of anything new in store for this Blu Ray release, and the extra features appear to be the same ones we received from the 15th Anniversary Edition:

• 3 animated shorts (Tummy Trouble, Roller-Coaster Rabbit and Trail Mix-Up)
• Who Made Roger Rabbit? documentary
• Audio commentary
• 5 featurettes (On Set! Benny the Cab, Behind the Ears: The True Story, Before & After Split-Screen, Toon Stand-Ins and The Valiant Files)
• Deleted scene
• Art gallery
• Theatrical trailer

The only thing worth mention is that the three cartoon shorts are now digitally remastered for this release, and the movie will be in crisp, Blu Ray quality. I know this is supposed to be just a "straight to Blu Ray" copy - but then why bother with the "25th Anniversary" on the front if there isn't anything new or special included. Either way, the DVD is set for release in March, along with other Disney films, Mulan, Hunchback and Brother Bear.

The video is not very telling, but Who Framed Roger Rabbit will finally make it to Blu-ray in 2013 for its 25th Anniversary. The only thing mentioned on the commercial, so far, is that the short films have been "digitally restored." Hopefully there will be more news soon. STAY TOONED!
