Jessica Rabbit Appears In Disneyland Paris Anniversary Parade

Check out the ImNotBad Twitter feed for photos and video of Jessica Rabbit making her second park appearance for the 25th Anniversary of Disneyland Paris. Though Jessica made one park appearance before, it was at the Disney Dreamers Everywhere event in 2013 (pictured right) which was not open to the general public. For 2017 Jessica was included in the 150 characters taking part in the Disneyland Paris 25th Anniversary, alongside other rare faces like Oswald the Rabbit, The Rescuers, Emperor Kuzco, Milo & Kida, Hercules & Meg and many more. The day began with a big opening ceremony featuring all the characters around the castle. Roger and Jessica Rabbit marched out with many others to It's A Small World which was partly combined with the Main Street Electrical Parade Theme. The characters all performed to Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, When You Wish Upon a Star, and music created for the anniversary. Later in the day there was an Anniversary Parade featuring all the characters seen during the opening ceremony.

Flashback Friday - Jessica Rabbit's Park Debut

One year ago this month Jessica Rabbit made her first ever in-park debut. The appearance was part of the very exclusive Disney Dreamers Everywhere event, which included trips to every Disney park around the globe. Disneyland Paris was the final stop and some of their surprise characters were Roger Rabbit, Eddie Valiant and Jessica Rabbit. Though this was quite a surprise, the majority of people were unsatisfied with Jessica's look, stating that she should be an unmasked performer. Below you can read all the news that went on from that time, with direct quotes from people on the Jessica costume, photos, video and my own thoughts on this unforgettable moment in Jessica Rabbit history.

People Want Jessica Rabbit In Disney Parks

The question is, which version should we see? While barraged by complaints about the mask, one thing is certainly clear now - whether or not it's with an improved mask or as a face character, people DO want to see a Jessica Rabbit mascot in the Disney parks. The people who were displeased by the look of the mask took to the internet in droves to make their opinion known. However, it didn't keep people from favoriting or liking the photos of Jessica's park debut, and there are some people now showing their appreciation for not only the costume, but the fact that Disney did something amazingly cool by prominently including the characters from Who Framed Roger Rabbit in their event.

Roger Rabbit's Toontown Dream Show - The Park Debut Of Jessica Rabbit

The Disney Dreamers Everywhere event was a month-long, worldwide journey to all of the Disney theme parks. It kicked off in Hong Kong, and went on to Tokyo, California, Florida and ended in Paris. A series of shows, meet-and-greets and events took place at each park, and these guests were in for some really big surprises. One being the debut of Jessica Rabbit as a park character - by now the most discussed park character probably in all Disney history. So lets take an in-depth look at what happened in Disney Paris during the Roger Rabbit's Toontown Dream show. (Photo, left, courtesy of Bert Snyers)

The Jessica Rabbit Debate - Park Character Under Heavy Scrutiny

For all these 25 years since Who Framed Roger Rabbit was released, I had hoped for the day when somehow Jessica Rabbit would be a walk-around character in the Disney parks. It seemed very much improbable. Pretty darn close to every Disney character has been included over the years. However, regardless of popularity, ANY character omissions are very noticeable. Jessica was one of those characters, from a ground breaking and critically acclaimed movie, to never be seen walking around the parks. On May 24 2013, Jessica Rabbit made her first ever character debut in the Disneyland Paris park, which was part of the Disney Dreamers Event. The photos got a lot of attention, very VERY negative attention. People were not at all pleased with how Jessica looked.

Above images courtesy of CharacterCentral.net

The big argument around the internet was that Jessica should be a face character. This is not technically the first time there was a real Jessica character by Disney. They did toy with the idea back in 1991 for their Disney On Ice show, making that her only live appearance until now. The Jessica character for that show was a woman in a Jessica costume. While it was great the character was included, there is something that didn't hit the mark - and that brings us to the face vs. masked debate.
