Flashback Friday - WDCC Jessica Rabbit Statue

The Walt Disney Classics Collection was started in 1992 and saw a wide collection of characters, such as Mickey Mouse, Buzz Lightyear, Stitch, Tinker Bell, Nightmare Before Christmas, Lion King, The Haunted Mansion, Small World, Snow White, Peter Pan, Beauty and the Beast - and of course, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. The first WDCC Roger and Jessica piece, "Dear Jessica, How Do I Love Thee," was released in 1999, and "I'm Not Bad, I'm Just Drawn That Way" was released in 2004. Both statues are sculpted by Kent Melton, and are a great example of what a high-end Disney collectible should be. Sadly, the Walt Disney Classics Collection statues stopped production in winter of 2013. Take a look at the Jessica statue, which was first in the Leading Ladies series:

Production Stops On Disney Classics Collection Statues

The unfortunate news is going around that the Walt Disney Classics Collection line, which has been in production for over 20 years, is being retired as of this month. No new statues are in the works and whatever is left on the shelves is all that remains. The WDCC line started in 1992 and became a beloved tradition of sorts for many collectors. Over the years they have produced countless characters into high quality statues which were found in the parks or through dealers. The line became increasingly popular and as the character selection widened, so did the interest.

The Walt Disney Classics Collection line is one of the higher-end collectibles available, and by now almost every Disney character has be immortalized with a statue. Jessica Rabbit has made two appearances, the first being entitled "Dear Jessica, How Do I Love Thee?" which also featured Roger as well. At long last, up for review now - as voted on by the readers of the site, is the stand-alone Jessica Rabbit Classics Collection Statue "I'm Not Bad, I'm Just Drawn That Way."

Jessica in Disneyana Magazine and a hold on DisneyStore.com pieces

Jessica Rabbit graces the cover of Tomart's Disneyana Magazine.

Star of "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" and headlining her own 2004 Showstopping Spring Event, Jessica Rabbit's "I'm Not Bad, I'm Just Drawn That Way" sculpture has made the cover for the March/April 2004 Issue; No. 55. Also included in the magazine is a full page ad for the event with stunning graphics and a very close up photo of Jessica. (tomart.com.)

The magazine also goes on to remind people at the event on March 26-28 guests buying this statue in person only will get a special crystal piece in the shape of a stage door engraved with Jessica's name (and kissmark) and dates of the event. You can find it at most book stores.

Also, in celebration on the event, Disney artist Allison Lefcort has made a 24" x 24" painting of Jessica in a very familiar pose entitled "Femme Fatale."

The Jessica statue is available for pre-order at DisneyStore.com - but you might be in for a wait. Upon ordering mine, I was sent this letter a few days later from Disney Direct Marketing Services:

Dressed in her slinky, sparkling gown and plussed with bronze shoes and glitter paint, Jessica's definitely a crowd pleaser - but this sultry songstress is also at the heart of Toontown's darkest mystery.
