The Dick Tracy Store 1990

While searching youtube, I came across a video which confirms the Jessica's store was originally the Dick Tracy store. The video states that this is August of 1990. This means that before Jessica's came along, the Dick Tracy store was housed in that very same building. It also means the Jessica's store was open for a shorter time. The Jessica's store was operating in 1991, as I was fortunate enough to pay a visit. It was closed in 1992 when I went back a year later. This means it could have only been open about a year and a half, not three years as I previously thought.

When looking at the jewelry created by Wendy Gell, I feel that Disney certainly became inspired by her work in more recent years – as proof with their own pavé crystal pins becoming a staple in their Holiday Princess series. Wendy’s sculpted pins were quite different from the flat cloisonné pins we know today, but she was the first to use crystals on Disney character pins – and the first to create a Jessica Rabbit series. She also pioneered the movement of putting characters in different costumes – something that is now very common with modern day pins. What was her experience like working at Disney? Rollercoaster Rabbit

The next short Roger Rabbit cartoon, Rollercoaster Rabbit, was released on June 15, 1990 in front of the movie version of Dick Tracy. Steven Spielberg originally wanted this short to appear in front of the Amblin Entertainment movie Arachnophobia, but at the insistence of then-CEO of Disney Michael Eisner, it was not. Disney later re-released Rollercoaster Rabbit in front of Toy Story in 1995 to take the place of the canceled Roger Rabbit short, Hare In My Soup. This may have been where all the problems began for the Roger Rabbit franchise, as Dick Tracy did not do well in theaters and may have angered Steven Spielberg that Michael Eisner insisted upon keeping the cartoon exclusively with a Disney feature movie.

In 1988, Who Framed Roger Rabbit stunned and entertained audiences. It won several Oscars and became a merchandising success.

In 1990, Dick Tracy was released to mixed reviews, but won several Academy Awards. Merchandise was also pushed heavily.
